The Berry
a locally grown, organic superfruit
Our flagship crop, the aronia berry is a native plant of the United States. Prior to the industrial revolution, the berry thrived in pastures nationwide, especially in Iowa. After our introduction to the aronia at a conference in New Orleans, we dropped everything and decided to experiment with the plant. Soon enough, we had developed the first commercial plantation of aronia berries in the United States. So we began educating our neighbors about the aronia berry, and in turn converted friends, professional horticulturalists, scientists, and customers into partners in hollistic health through the berry.
Organically grown on our farm, there are several components and compounds found in the aronia berry benefit our health, aiding in the prevention of disease and complications. High levels of antioxidants, phenolic compounds, and flavonoids characterized as anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins, provide the berry its power. The aronia berry has one of the highest revorded levels of antioxidant capacity amongst berries and fresh fruits.
When free radicals are released in our bodies, they can cause the break down of lipids, proteins, and the human fiber – the DNA molecule. The primary function of antioxidants is to prevent the decomposition which results from this process, meaning they are a major anti-aging mechanism.
